Christopher Unger

Owner, Artist, and Designer at Unger Glass

Meet the Artist

With over eight years experience, Christopher Unger is a disciplined glassblower whose work explores the potential and limits of glass as both a functional and artistic medium.

Christopher's journey with glass began while he earned an Associate's degree from Shasta College before transferring to San Jose State University (SJSU). He graduated from SJSU in May of 2013 with a BA in Art, Studio Practice. His studies at SJSU focused on mastering new glassblowing techniques and experimenting with its vast potential for artistic expression. His work exhibited with group shows in the student galleries on campus and he had a solo exhibition of armor made of blown glass in March 2013. Christopher was also a member of SJSU's Glass Artist Guild for which he served as Treasurer from August 2012 to graduation in May 2013.

Currently, Christopher continues to use glass to explore and experiment with minimal forms, colors, and composition. His work often involves an intense exploration of the physical qualities of glass and the capturing of time that represents the fluctuating tension and release surrounding the process. Over the years, Christopher has exhibited his work in several notable juried west coast exhibits including Turtle Bay’s 4th West Coast Biennial in Redding, CA, Richmond Art Center’s Glass Currents in Richmond, CA, and Brea Art Gallery’s 4th Clay and Glass Biennial, in Brea, CA. He also has had work commissioned by international organizations such as Ellevate Network headquartered in New York.
